China Seeking Dominance in Artificial Intelligence Arms Race

In the 1960s, it was assumed that whoever won the Space Race would establish themselves as the world power. The USA became that power in 1969 when they landed the first man on the moon. Today, we find ourselves in a new aged space race – this time, with artificial intelligence. It has been said that artificial intelligence is “the key technology underpinning national power in the future”, not only expanding commercial industry but deeply impacting military purposes and national security. Though the USA is widely recognized as the leader in AI with the highest levels of advanced technology, investment, research, and talent, power dynamics are shifting as a new party is entering the race: China. With the country’s structural advantages, heavy support of the government and three tech giants on its back, China is poised to become an industry-disrupting player.
